The Shooter: A Day of Reckoning.
A Cinematic interactive psychological drama/ shooter game. The game follows two main characters: Jane, a widow of a criminal and the protagonist; Jake, a crime leader in-hiding and the antagonist.
I developed this game script as part of the “Story And Narrative Development For Video Games” course from the CalArt’s Game Design Art And Concepts Specialization. We were given a basic story outline with two characters -a protagonist and an antagonist- and a main plotline. We were encouraged to go beyond that scope and develop our own spin on the story, flip the characters dynamic, develop our own game mechanics, and create our own unique game world.
I wanted the game to be more realistic, story-based and player-led game. Not so much about the cool guns and obstacles in the shooting range, but more about each character’s motives and developing point of view.
I built multilayered characters that are neither purely good nor evil, but multifaceted beings who have the ability to make choices (good or bad) along the way.
I imagined this game being a complex (choose your own adventure) game just like Heavy Rain, where the choices the player makes -playing as both the protagonist and the antagonist- can change the course of events and the ultimate results of the game itself.
